Declares a 6 to 6 movement restriction all over the FCT.
The FCT Police Command has ordered all residents who are not on essential election duty to remain indoors on Saturday, 21st February, as it confirms the deployment of personnel from the Army, Air Force and the Navy for election monitoring. Other agencies expected to keep the peace include the DSS and the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
There will be a restriction of movement across the FCT from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on February 21, 2026, except for essential service providers and election officials.
The order, which has implications for the residents of Kubwa, was made known by the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, on Wednesday. In the statement she informed that ”This massive deployment has enjoyed a rich exchange of operation and human resources from Sister security agencies, comprising of the Nigeria Army, Nigeria Air Force, Nigeria Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among others. The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., charged all deployed officers to maintain the highest level of professionalism and ensure adequate security coverage at all polling units and collation centres in order to guarantee a peaceful, free, and fair electoral process. He further warned that officers must remain vigilant, impartial, and courteous in the discharge of their duties, while respecting the rights of all citizens.”
The order further clarified that “there will be a restriction of movement across the FCT from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on February 21, 2026, except for essential service providers and election officials. Consequently, FCT residents are urged to cooperate fully with security personnel and comply with security operations guidelines during this period.”
The police also call for residents to go out and vote without fear while maintaining peace.
As a means of assuring residents, the statement added: “Members of the public are also encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the Police through the following emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938.”
