In an unprecedented political event, as the February 21st FCT Area Council Election draws even closer, the Chairmanship aspirant for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Honourable Julius Adamu, surrenders his aspiration for the top seat in Bwari Area Council.
It was in the presence of the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, that Adamu made the shocking concession to the candidate of the All Progressives Party (APC), Joshua Ishaku Musa.
While stepping down for another candidate is not strange in political contests, it is unheard of that a contender would step down for a candidate of another political party. Yet that is exactly what happened in Bwari today.
In the event monitored on Agbagyisha-Tv, the FCT minister addressed the boisterous indoor audience, saying that Adamu has “agreed that he will step down for Joshua”.
In his speech, the PDP Chairmanship candidate Julius Adamu began by hailing “PDAPC”! to the hysteria of the incumbent chairman John Gabaya, who howled with vehement gesticulation “power progress! power progress!”. Julius Adamu proceeded after the brief interruption, “Good afternoon, everyone. I am Honourable Julius Adamu, the immediate past Honourable Speaker Bwari Area Council, and now the PDP candidate Bwari Area Council. I am stnding here before you this afternoon to tell you that I have gone into a deep consultation with the Honourable Minister of FCT, and we have come to conclusion that I and Joshua we are brothers, and that it will not be nice for two brothers to kill theirselves over one issue; so as such, I have relinquished my support Honourable Joshua”. The excited audience continued their noisy salute as he went on to add by way of flexing his political antecedents. “You see Joshua, we are from the same ward with Joshua…I removed him from office from 2019 to 2022. I wanted to remove him again, but I listened to my daddy…and I want to urge you all that we should all support him to become chairman Bwari Area Council”
This development has brought renewed attention to the FCT minister, considering his widely known political actions in both the PDP and Rivers state.
It is hoped that the Saturday election will be concluded without issues while reflecting the true position of voters’ choice.
