DJs RISE TO RESCUE YOUTHS IN KUBWA

This last Sunday night was a pulsating musical night in Kubwa, not exactly like other Sunday nights, this one was different.

For the longest time, music and sound has made large gatherings, events and parties more enjoyable. With the help of modern sound equipment and devices, the human voice has been amplified way better than relying on echoes in a wide and open valley to communicate with a large crowd.

Disk Jockeys, known for short as DJs, do the job of amplifying sound and voice. They make sure everybody in a gathering hears what a speaker is saying. They are the main companion for every MC (Master of Ceremony). An MC cannot have a career without a DJ, and it is easy to understand why. But amplifying voices is not the first job of a DJ, because any basic sound technician and engineer can connect microphones to amplifiers, sound mixers and then to speakers. DJs do better than that.

After setting up the sound equipment, a good DJ goes on to roll out music in the most creative combination and selection. The energy of the crowd depends heavily on his mixes and transitions.

Our great Kubwa, is fortunate to have great DJs who operate at different levels from small-scale, having basic equipment which can be moved in a Keke, to medium establishments that mobilize to events in a bus or truck. We can find and hear them most evening and every weekends in relaxation spots and lounges.

On Sunday, 22nd of March, something interesting in the world of DJing was introduced into Kubwa and it got the attention of insidekubwa.com whose team went close to get some understanding of the project.

It turns out it was the opening of a DJ’s outfit in Kubwa–a proper office with an address, which apparently is the first of its kind here. But it proposes an addtional value, and that is the establisment of a DJ Academy, definitely the first of its kind in Kubwa! This is this the project of a young DJ known in his circle as DJ Mosco.

As it is in every party atmosphere, the venue was well-lit with strobe lights, LED screens, a high stage and of course large speakers and subwoofers. This was the first indication of the scale of the DJ’s establishment.

Speaking with guests and supporters of the event, a very revealing and instructive information was gathered. Firstly, people who operate in that sector have a good level of cooperation among themselves and are willing to turn up for each other when the occassion demands. Secondly,brands and businesses find DJs event a valuable platform to project their products and services.

DJ ESonic

The front man and manger for the event, DJ E-sonic told us “we are here to bring new things to the Kubwa lifestyle, we’re bringing worldclass music vibes to Kubwa, we’re coming to shake Kubwa, because we have the Unshakable DJ live in Kubwa”.

He went on to give some insight on why the academy is also considered alongside. “It is to benefit the youth and the upcoming that want to become a DJ, the academy is where you can come and acquire new skills, where you can come to build yourself so that the music industry can be a better place for us to feel, good, and feel happy and do things together.

Hype MC Sugarboy

The hypeman for the night Hype MC Sugarboy took us memory lane while revealing the life changing impact that his talent as brought him. He revealed that he has been with the proprietor for over ten years and regards him as a good friend, brother and mentor.

We were curious to know if the industry is running out of DJs and wanted to know from him the need for the academy, he gave the most revealing response: “You know now talent has opened way for many of us, like some of us that don’t have sponsors, it’s our talent that’s been feeding us. For instance, I trained myself right from secondary school with my talent to higher institution. So we are sharing that opportunity now to people that are willing to learn”

In the face of high level of unemployment and current economic realities MC Sugarboy added: “you must not wait on government to come and give you because there is massive unemployment now, but with your talent you can be able to cater for yourself and family”. 

Favorite DJ-Emzy

The DJ who kept the music pumping and the people vibing, Favourite DJ-Emzy praised the “agility” of his friend and noted his love for music. Commenting on the academy he stated that “in Kubwa here, there is no DJ Academy, so it’s the first of its kind”.

DJ-Emzy shared his perspective on why the academy is being established stating that DJ Mosco wants the new generation to cash in on the benefits that comes from DJing. He said “I believe it’s a good one for the society to also learn from it. Apart from having passion in it, you can also use it to generate income to keep yourself okay”.

The passion with which the gentlemen spoke about their line of work indicated that the DJing side of the entertainment industry is one that is run by people of depth, education, social skills and understanding.

Adding to the flair of the DJ’s music mix was a drumming talent Papstickz D Drummer who provided the best compliment to the constant musical vibe of the night. The combination of a DJ, hypeman and percussion results in the most complete musical entertainment for any party and shows that opportunity exists for young people to rescue themselves from economic limitations and make a decent living with their skills and talent.
