SIGNED:
INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC)
This election season is significant as it will pave the way for a new set of leaders following the expiration of the incumbent’s second term.
All over the town of Kubwa, residents can already notice various campaign materials and trails in all parts of Kubwa as candidates move across to get residents aware of them, sell their manifestos and possibly vote for them on election day.
Local council elections over the years have not generated the kind of attention they should, as citizens tend to focus more on federal elections. This leads to voter apathy and significantly low turnouts on election day. It is hoped that things will improve this time because there has been some stirring in the polity, enough to spur electorates to increase their interest in grassroots governance.
In the list released by INEC, there are eleven (11) aspirants aiming to be the next Chairman of Bwari Area Council and twenty-six (26) candidates vying to be Councillors in the three wards that Kubwa is comprised of. By the time the election is concluded on the 21st of February 2026, one person and their deputy will occupy the available positions.
We hope to get closer to them and have them speak to us in subsequent days on their vision for their wards and for the Area Council.
