Residents of Kubwa are groaning silently due to extended hours of electricity outages as the dry season arrives with hot humid evenings and a near absence of wind movement.
This is already impacting the preservation of food. Families are reporting how their soups go bad due to a lack of power to freeze or refrigerate.
In Kubwa Ms. Edna Awe spoke with reporters about how exhausted she has become of the electricity situation. “I am appealing to authorities concerned with power supply to address this pathetic situation,” she said, urging regulatory agencies to monitor the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to ensure value for consumers.
Also speaking, Mr. Samuel Odey, reportedly said the lack of stable power disrupts daily life, making basic tasks and relaxation difficult. He called the situation a wake-up call for the government and power sector stakeholders.
It is curious to note that areas that are said to be on the 33kv line continue to enjoy a stable duration of power supply with less frequent cuts. This leaves residents wondering why they can’t enjoy power supply as it is on Band A.
Business are getting even more affected forcing some to consider or outrightly implement price hikes.
In petrol stations all over Kubwa, persons are commonly seen with jerrycans buying petrol in as a way to power their businesses and homes for food preservation and relaxation.
Sadly some families, having spent so much from their monthly income have become tired and have chosen rather to endure the inconvenience of the weather.
According to an X account @Nationalgridng the total electricity available to Nigerians nation-wide stood at 2,931 Megawatts as at 8:27 am on Sunday 15th with Abuja Distribution Company having a paltry 448 MW for customers across the 3 other states it covers, that is, Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi states. Describing that the situation is a result of “low output”.
Residents continue to call for action to be taken to address the power situation while others are already expressing hopelessness considering the fact that the Presidency is set to go off grid from March .
