Gentrification:The Abuja update.

Gentrification is the regional change in the housing plan of a region.Depending on how it is carried out.In Nigeria,it usually raises a lot of anger.In 2020/2021,the FCTA declared that they needed to clear the Arab bus stop area aa it.haa a lot of shanties.that serves as shelter for a lot of prostitutes (this action was due to a complain from a lot of ladies in the Dakibu village of Jabi who claimed that their spouses hardly come home as they spend most of their time with the “women of easy virtue” at the brothels in Arab busstop at Utako.

We know that infidelity links the SDGs as it leads to sexual transmitted diseases that can put pressure on public health facilities(which may not be able to handle it in terms of manpower and medications),hatred towards a gender(objectification and eventual femicide) ,noticeablenmental health issues (like depression and psychological trauma) for affected partners and their own children.

SDG 5 (Gender Equality): The UN frequently tracks intimate partner violence, which is often acutely triggered by accusations or discoveries of sexual infidelity. Furthermore, in some parts of the world, adultery laws are highly discriminatory, carrying disproportionate legal penalties primarily aimed at women.

SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions): This infidelity has seeminly erased peace ,justice and strong institutions that once existed in the Dakibu and Arab neighbourhood in Utako and we now have steams of romantic jealousy ,domestic disputes and family instability. Stable, healthy family units and the reduction of gender-based violence are key factors for the peaceful and inclusive societies and other UNSDGs.

As the Dakibu wives and ladies vent again and there is another possible demolition of the Arab busstop in the nearest future, the question is :should gentrification be used as a revenge tool against the people?Your guess is as good as mine.
