KUGBO BUS TERMINAL IN RUINS!

Kugbo Bus Terminal damaged

What seemed like a normal rainy afternoon in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Abuja, was a cause for major damage in Kugbo.

The rainy season is effectively on, and residents of the FCT are finding relief from the heat with temperatures that have reached as high as 36 degrees Celsius in 2026.

Little did residents know that as the rainy season began to come with its usual storms, it would cause damage to our very eye-catching Kugbo Bus Terminal in Nyanya, located about 35 kilometres from Kubwa.

The prominent landmark is said to be a component of a N51 billion transportation infrastructure upgrade initiative by the Wike administration, and was billed for inauguration this April. This storm damage has posed a major setback to one of the FCT’s three modern transportation hubs.

According to The Guardian, “the downpour, which began around 3:30 p.m., was accompanied by strong winds that tore off sections of the terminal’s roof, scattering debris across the highway and obstructing vehicular movement on both lanes of the dual carriageway.”

A commuter who observed the damage lamented, “This is Kugbo Bus Terminal, something that they have not done inauguration yet? This is bad; just two minutes rain has removed everything! This is bad.”

The storm ripped through the structure and flung debris onto the highway, hitting some vehicles and causing major traffic gridlock on the side that usually has free-flowing traffic during the afternoon hours.

The matter has reportedly gotten the attention of the FCT minister, and he has promised quick action to restore the building to use in record time.

An unfortunate consequence of this damage was the invasion of scavengers of the site to cart away metals and other “useful” materials from the damage.

It is hoped that the quality of the other terminals will be audited to ensure safety for passengers who will be expected to patronise the terminals. Another shocked observer imagined what would have happened if the facility had been in operation and passengers were there. Noting the force of the storm and how “it blew it on to the highway”.
