The Chief Executive Officer of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye, has stated that Abuja will enjoy an almost round-the-clock power supply from the last quarter of 2026, or by this time next year.

“We are increasingly power reliable. We are constructing a new feeder to Wuse from the second week of March for customers in Wuse to experience at least 20 hours of power supply. Same with Idu. It may sound like a tall order, but it is possible; we have the support of our board, shareholders, and the government. By this time next year, this huge impact in terms of power drop will be a thing of the past”.

He went on to add, “By this time next year, we will not be affected by the drop in power supply from the National Grid,”

His bold statement was powered by the progress in the ongoing construction of the Abuja Thermal Power Station in Dukpa, Gwagwalada. The first phase is expected to deliver 350 megawatts to Abuja from the expected 1,350 megawatt capacity at completion.

The station will be powered by the AKK (Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano) natural gas pipeline developed by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and is expected to improve power supply to Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi states and of course the FCT.

This is a cheering news as the challenge of electricity supply in recent time has been a source of frustration to residents in Abuja.

Engr. Okwuokenye assured that “It may sound like a tall order, but it is possible; we have the support of our board, shareholders, and the government. By this time next year, this huge impact in terms of power drop will be a thing of the past. By this time next year we will not be affected by the drop in power supply from the National Grid”.
