THE THREE MALLS IN KUBWA: WHERE DO RESIDENTS GO?

Published

on

This town we live in has long come into its own.

A town that is capable of sustaining its residents, providing access to the necessities of life, and giving everyone the chance to relax and unwind at “home”. One of the very needs of contemporary urban dwellers is the need to visit malls. That is a very interesting need, and Kubwa is up to the task of meeting that need!

All around town, there are tens of shopping plazas, mostly concentrated along Gado Nasko Road. There are possibly up to twenty shopping places identified as “Plaza” on that stretch of road alone bearing a cocktail of names such as Surge, Veterans, Azagidi, Mac Torty, Mercy, Our Joy, Emzak and so on. By definition, plazas are public marketplaces with open spaces in built-up areas. Practically, they are buildings that host different kinds of small businesses, from barber shops to grocery or provisions shops, to boutiques and shops for gift items, computer accessories, laundry business, and the rest.

Here in Kubwa, the idea of having a mall–a shopping mall– remains curious, because the word “Mall” conjures a picture of a massive building stretching over 50 metres on one side

As of right now, new plazas are under construction along Gado Nasko road, in particular, and new ones are being opened regularly. For plazas, the experience is basic: you approach a business, request their service, and you leave. Plazas in Kubwa do not offer leisure attractions or incentives for window shopping; they are designed to support trading. This has proven to negatively affect some businesses, in ways malls never will.

Here in Kubwa, the idea of having a mall–a shopping mall– remains curious, because the word “Mall” conjures a picture of a massive building stretching over 50 metres on one side. We think of places like Silverbird Mall, Novare Mall and the Jabi Lake Mall. Those are the scales that comes to mind when we consider what a mall should look like. But that thinking is not altogether right. Yes, shopping malls are large and could also be tall buildings but it is the architectural design and the commercial function a building  performs that qualifies it to be called a mall. So according to Difference Between, Shopping malls or malls are large enclosed spaces that are often characterized with many stores that sell merchandise to the public. These places are also referred to as shopping arcade or shopping precinct.

Difference Between added: Malls can be medium to large in size, depending on the construction and the number of stores that it wants to hold. Shopping centers usually refer to smaller malls, while shopping malls are used to refer to the large shopping areas. Some features of a mall according to the reference is that malls are enclosed and have centralized cooling or heating, depending on the weather and the area where the mall is located. Malls are also car-friendly and are associated with having large parking spaces in an underground parking lot or an adjoining building. The malls also have many different stores that sell many different kinds of merchandise, including food, jewelry, clothes, specialized stores, watches, etc.

So now let’s turn our attention the malls we are privileged to have here in Kubwa. They are absolutely well designed and structured, with utmost effort made to provide a great experience to their customers. The main feature is the light design. Lights are very crucial of course because they enhance visual appeal and when combined with signages and branding, they become an ultimate tool for advertisement and attention grabbing.

Our malls also provide space for dining, Gym and gaming besides shopping experiences. So while they may not be massive in scale, they provide the what their kinds provide in down-town Abuja, well, with few exceptions.

A mall with a welcoming ambience allows for a cozy stay, a stroll, window shopping, product testing from brands and a space for talent showcase.

Why is this important? Family, business, relationships. These have been well nurtured and built in shopping malls. This is why having malls here in Kubwa is very appreciated because it has enabled residents to save time and cost for that special experience they could travel kilometers for.

So where do our people in Kubwa love to go to relax, have ice cream, sharwarma, cakes and pie? They go to one of these three malls.

  1. Cok Best Mall along Arab Road
  2. Dellamond Mall in FO1 Dushepe(?) yep, that is a place in Kubwa.
  3. Talk Mall along Gado Nasko Road. that is the one known as TK Mall.

These places have been of great importance to residents and will continue to serve as hubs for socialization and relaxation for the foreseeable future while our many plazas will remain indispensible for quick business and purchases.
